Assessment in Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine
All students follow the curricula set out for each subject by the Department of Education and Science with the exception of Transition Year whose curriculum is set by the school.
Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine provides regular assessment of all students throughout the school year. This consists of regular class tests as well as formal exams at Christmas and summer. These provide valuable feedback on learning as well as preparing students for the Junior Certificate at the end of Year 3 and the Leaving Certificate at the end of Year 5, or 6 if Transition Year option is taken.
Continuous assessment of students in the Junior or Leaving Certificate years is more formal and the results are available online on our Compass App and posted to parents in November.
Mock examinations of the Junior and Leaving Certificate take place in February of the exam year. These are set and corrected by external examiners and are important indicators of academic progress as well as providing essential practice in time management skills
All year groups have a parent-teacher meeting during the school year and these provide an ideal forum for discussing your child’s progress: attendance is strongly advised.
