Student Council 2009/2010

Student Council 2009/2010
My role as Student President is to act as the voice for the students and make sure that every student is treated fairly and that their opinions are taken into account when we discuss school rules and policies. A student council meeting takes place once a month. Within every class group a representative is chosen to be part of the council so the council comprises 17 members. The class representatives’ job is to assess any issues brought to their attention and take them into account and as President I work in conjunction with the Principal and staff to create a positive environment. It is an honour to be chosen as student President and I would like to thank the student body for giving me such an honour. Also thanks to Ms. Piggott and Mr. Healy for their co-operation and support.

Student Council 2008/2009
A quick word of explanation for people who may be uncertain of the role played by The Student Council in Pobalscoil, it is a council set up to hear and deal with student’s different ideas and opinions on how to make Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine an even better school for everybody involved. If a first year is unsure about anything they can certainly be helped and be advised by the student council or class representatives. If any other student has a problem it can also be brought to the attention of The Council and hopefully sorted out because the great advantage of this student body is that we work in conjunction with school management so we get the principals opinion on any issues and together we work out solutions to the issues that arise.
Scarf
So far this year we have been busy with attempts to add to our school uniform, many of you wanted a school scarf to become available. We have brought this forward and we now have samples and design ideas and we have spoken to a supplier and to both Quills and O’Sullivan Ford’s regarding this. We hope to see this much sought after scarf keeping everyone warm next winter. Every issue that came to our attention was discussed and dealt with as well as possible.
Fundraising
We have also had two non-uniform days one was for Green Day this money went towards the can and bottle recycling machine that is in the assembly area and it also went to the green school committee and the other was to raise money for an ex student Joyce Bamburry who has traveled to Africa to do charity work, we wish her well and hope she is able to put the money we raised to good use.
Every year The Canteen is discussed by students and everyone can see there have been great improvements made over the last few years we did have a an issue with changes in prices after mid term but as they say you get what you pay for. We also orgainised and ran a Teachers .Vs. Students basketball game which was an exciting day and it was the teachers that came out with smiles on their faces as they put up a brilliant game against the student’s. We would like to thank the students for their generosity.
Memorial Garden
Many students have suggested that we create a memorial garden on the school grounds, which could be place to remember and honour teachers and student’s who have passed away.
And Finally
As this is my last year in the school I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the efforts by all of the student councils I have seen working hard over the last five years. I am sure this tradition of hard work and commitment to representing the student’s views will continue, I wish it the best of luck in future years.
It is a great idea for a school to have a student council and this would not be possible without the commitment by Ms. Piggott it is greatly appreciated.
Finally I would like to wish my fellow students the best of luck in the exams and every student throughout the school best of luck.
Josh Crosbie, Student President
Student Council 2008
The student council of this school is a very active body which is involved in many aspects of the school. Its main aim is to represent every student in the school and give a voice to anyone who would like to raise an issue about anything in the school. It is a major link between the students and the Principal, who would not have time to meet with every student individually to discuss any problems they have with any aspect of the school. Over the years the student council has achieved many things including permission to wear a stud in each ear, the healthy food campaign last year which resulted in our fabulous new canteen this year and also the Leaving Cert common room which has this year been replaced by the L.C. area in the canteen.
So far this year we already have made a number of great achievements. This year for the first time the student council decided to give the teachers a vote in the presidential election. A group from the student council had a meeting with the inspectors as part of the whole school evaluation. This went very well and we were complimented on everything were doing in the school. Some members of the student council also helped out with giving the incoming first years a tour of the school which was very successful. Along with the green-school committee we organized a non-uniform day on Friday March 14th which the majority of the students took part in. Lastly a major success this year was the leaving cert “Chilaxe Day” which the Leaving Cert class had a major role in the organizing. Due to its success this will now be an annual event for LC2’s. Before the end of this school year we are also hoping to have a multi-cultural day to celebrate all the different cultures that are present in our school today. We are planning for another non-uniform day in May and also we are hoping to run a competition during arts week to design a school mascot.
Finally I would like to say a very big thanks to Ms. Piggott who plays a major role in the student council and without her help all of this would not have been possible.

Student President 2006/2007
As Student President of Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine, it is my privilege to represent each and every student attending this school. I would like to thank all those who support and elected me as your chosen voice. I would also like to acknowledge and commend the seven other candidates, Lucy O’Sullivan, Josh Crosbie, Joanne Egan, Sean O’Shea, Theresa O’Shea, Joanne O’Sullivan and James O Donaghue, who ran very challenging campaigns and, in doing so, did them and their school proud.
I hope to fulfil my role as Student President to the best of my ability and in due course to address all relevant issues and concerns affecting the student body.
I am looking forward with confidence to your continued support throughout the coming school year.
Míle Buíochas,
David
